I’m not an artist. Park me on a bench with sketchbook in hand and I break out in a sweat. Where do I start! But I can copy from books, sketch buildings (I was a building surveyor for over 20 years) draw up building surveys, and sketch out home designs and interiors from all planes of perspective. But ask me to draw a picture and I go blank.
I have attempted the odd picture and I have numerous little sketches in a book which is somewhere in the loft. I do have this though. This is a sketch I suddenly had the inspiration to do some years ago of my cat Wookie. Not perfect but caught the essence of his character.
So it was with great interest that I saw a tweet by Michael Nobbs (an artist I follow on twitter), about “Start to draw your Life”. Download his online book about how to get started in sketching. Just basically draw, draw anything, doesn’t matter if it isn’t perfect. I’ve downloaded it and am going to give it a go.
Don’t expect masterpieces, but hopefully you’ll see an improvement
