Sony Nex-5

Today’s sketch is that of my camera.  I’ve had it just over a year and use it every day as I belong to 365 groups on flickr.  It’s a beautiful piece of design and engineering and I’m learning more and more about what it does.

Clock Key

Clock Key

The clock key winds up a Smith Enfield mantle clock that sits on the fireplace.  It dates from the 1940s and was bought for my husband’s parents when they got married.  It has a very comforting tick but has a tendency to get over wound.  It also has Westminster chimes for on the hour and chimes the quarters too, although we have switched that off as it gets very loud in the early morning!

Black Grape nail varnish

My favourite nail varnish colour, deep purple so dense it looks black.  Don’t wear nail varnish as much as I used to.  Perhaps I ought to start again.

Hospital radiator cover

Radiator hospital cover

Went to Ruthin Community hospital today for a Diabetic Retinopathy scan.  Sitting in the waiting room to be called and started sketching the detail on the radiator covers.  I haven’t inked over it as I’ve been unwell and not done any sketching since this.

This sketch is from a wooden row of Cottages which is made from driftwood and lightly painted with watercolours.  I bought it for Mum from a wonderful shop in Worthing many years ago.  It now sits on my windowsill within so I can see it everyday.

Faber and Castell eraser

A quick sketch today as I’m not feeling too bright.  This is an eraser with a swing cover in blue plastic from Faber and Castell.

This is a large spiral shell and I think I was getting a bit too ambitious! but I gave it my best shot.  I need to work on tones and shading to give depth and solidity.

Stripey Pebble

Today’s sketch is of a pebble.  I collect pebbles as I have more than a passing interest in Geology.  I particularly like those with Aplites.  This is the term in Petrology used for intrusive rock where the dominant minerals are quartz and feldspar.  Further information on how the aplites formed is here.

Today’s sketch is the silk box that inspired this blog’s title.  I’m not happy with it but then I’m a perfectionist and apparently it doesn’t matter how it looks as long as I attempted to sketch something.
